ALL ABOUT WALL PILATES

Wall Pilates exercises are everywhere on social media as an alternative to the mat or reformer.  They are particularly useful if you are somewhere with limited space, like a hotel room, when you are away on holiday.

ALL ABOUT WALL PILATES

The wall minimises impact and helps with alignment, but it can also be used for added resistance to make the exercises more challenging.  It can provide a small amount of intensity if you are a beginner, but it can give the more experienced person a stronger workout. You can do roll downs or side bends using the wall for feedback or have a go at wall squats.  Another exercise is to lie on your back with your feet against the wall and do curl-ups and spine curls.  Or copy the person in the photo and put your legs against the wall and slide them up and down (Hint: use a cushion under your pelvis if you can't get close enough to the wall). My favourite are shoulder stretches where you stand with your nose against the wall and draw a semi-circle with your hand. Supple muscles are stronger muscles so be creative and see the difference!
