All About Pilates Studio is based in the North East of England offering Pilates classes in North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham.  Smaller groups (up to three people) and private sessions are held in the All About Pilates Studio just outside Yarm.  Classes are for everyone regardless of fitness level and the number of people in the group sessions is limited to ensure you receive personal attention.  You will learn good movement skills step by step, which will ultimately help you to improve your:

  • Core strength & muscle tone

  • Posture & alignment

  • Flexibility

  • Joint, ligament & spinal mobility

  • Strength & balance

  • Stress & tension levels

Classes are taught by Joanna Gibson who obtained her Level 3 Mat Qualification at the prestigious Body Control Pilates training centre in London, which is a world-leading education provider for Pilates teaching.  The Body Control Level 3 Mat Qualification is a lengthy and an in-depth training programme involving:

  • 12 intensive theory and practical days plus a one day anatomy and physiology course at the Body Control Pilates headquarters in London

  • A practical assessment with Body Control Northern Regional Coordinator in Newcastle 

  • Two written assessments and completion of the Active IQ Level 3 Workbook 

  • Level 3 Active IQ Physiology and Anatomy Exams – Results 97% and 95% 

  • 6 further days of practical teaching workshops at Body Control Pilates headquarters in London 

  • 60 hours of supervised teaching with supervising instructors at Body Control Studios in Yarm, York, Gosforth and London 

  • Submission and approval of 6-week lesson plan and completion of example client registration form

  • First sign-off and final practical exam with two Body Control assessors at Body Control in London.


In addition to the Level 3 qualification, Joanna has attended the following specialist Body Control courses and obtained further qualifications:


  • Pilates for Equestrians

  • Pilates using the ball and toning circle

  • Pilates for Pregnancy (Active IQ Level 3 qualification in Designing Pre- and Postnatal Pilates programmes with 98% in both papers)

  • Pilates for the Older Person (Active IQ Level 3 qualification in Physical Activity and Health Considerations for the Older Client)

  • Intermediate matwork (covering the classical mat repertoire)

  • Pilates for Performance (creating Pilates programmes specifically for people wanting to develop performance-based objectives such as running, cycling and dance)

  • Precision of Movement

  • Pilates Adaptations

  • Pilates Movement

  • Pilates with the Band

  • Standing Pilates

  • Pilates on the Ball

  • Level 4 - Joanna is currently studying for her Level 4 qualification, which is the highest level of Pilates qualification in the health and fitness industry.  


Joanna has always had an interest in fitness and exercise having studied ballet from an early age and then focusing her attention onto horses, a hobby which she still loves today.  She has been practising Pilates for over 15 years, taking it up while pregnant with her son and then continued to attend classes to manage a lower back problem derived from carrying around a small child!  She soon became addicted to Pilates and the freedom it brought her from being pain-free.  On approaching a milestone birthday, Joanna decided to make a career change from years of office-based work to train as a Pilates teacher so she could do what she loved for a living and share her passion with others.

The timetable is as follows and all classes will last 55 minutes.  There is a max of 12 people in each class, but usually classes are much smaller in size.  Private sessions are by appointment.  You will be required to complete a client enrolment form before joining any class which will cover all terms and conditions.  

Monday at 7pm and 8pm

Wednesday at 5.30pm and 6.30pm (6.30pm class is Classical Mat/Advanced level)

Thursday at 5.30pm (Pilates on the Ball)

Thursday at 7pm

Friday at 11am



By taking part in an online Pilates class, you fully understand that your teacher is not able to offer any personal correction; you agree to take responsibility for your own body; you agree not to perform any exercises or movements that may cause you discomfort; and you confirm that you are fit and able to join the class. You must ensure that you are working in a safe environment and that you are able to clearly see and/or hear your teacher in order to follow instructions. It is your responsibility to let the teacher know before the class if anything affects your ability to exercise that day. By joining the class you automatically agree to waive all statutory rights against your teacher.

  • Monday evenings at 7pm and 8pm at The Fitness Studio, Conyers School, Green Lane, Yarm, Stockton on Tees TS15 9ET (Classses start Monday 24th February 2020)

  • Wednesday evenings at 5.15pm and 6.30pm at the Chancery Lane Health & Wellness Centre, 2 Chancery Lane, Darlington DL1 5QP

  • Thursday evenings at 7.00pm at Markington Village Hall, Markington, Harrogate HG3 3NR - THIS CLASS IS FULL. Message me to go onto the waiting list.

  • Friday mornings at 11am at the Chancery Lane Health & Wellness Centre, 2 Chancery Lane, Darlington DL1 5QP

  • Sunday evenings at times by appointment at the All About Pilates Studio, Aislaby, Teesside/North Yorkshire TS16 0GN


Classes last 55 mins / one hour.  We use a variety of props in the class such as bands, blocks, foam rollers, soft overballs and weights to help you to get the most out of the exercises and to add to the challenge of the workout.  

Smaller groups and private sessions are held at the All About Pilates studio in Aislaby which is one mile from Yarm/Eaglescliffe on the Teesside / North Yorkshire border.  Classes of up to three people maximum are available on Sunday evenings and private sessions are by appointment only.  If you are looking for bespoke pregnancy Pilates classes/private sessions contact Joanna for further information.
